Jazzadena is the Vocal Jazz Ensemble (MUSC 056) at Pasadena City College. This ensemble focuses on jazz tunes from the Great American Songbook and Latin Jazz, as well the occasional pop or gospel song. The arrangements sung are voiced in close harmony, as is typical for the style, and offer various opportunities for lyric and improvised solos. The members of Jazzadena sing on individual microphones and are accompanied by a rhythm section. Due to its harmonic complexity, Vocal Jazz requires a high level of listening skills and provides great training in musicianship and vocal technique. The singers also gain the practical experience of setting up and operating their own sound system. Past members of Jazzadena have successfully transferred to music programs at CSU Northridge, CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, San Diego State, Azusa Pacific, UCLA, UC Berkeley, University of Arizona and many others.
Jazzadena has three performances per semester and travels to a Vocal Jazz Festival in the spring. All PCC students are welcome to audition for this ensemble, and Vocal Jazz Majors are strongly encouraged to sing in this group. Rehearsals are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:55 p.m. in the Performing Arts building. Hope to see you there!!
